The story of Khoobsurat is a classic coming of age story in the heart of the British Raj. It is about an orphaned girl, who has been raised with her wealthy maternal grandmother. However, with this come-of-age tale comes some struggles, especially when her mother finally arrives in India after years away. The movie has garnered many positive reviews from critics for being both interesting and entertaining. The film was released on October 6th, 2014 in 3D format with English subtitles. At the time of release it had a budget estimated at $6 million USD, but received mixed reception because it failed to find any audience during its opening weekend. The film begins with the wedding of five-year-old Anarkali (Rhea Chakraborty) and her grandmother (Reema Lagoo), which is broken up by the arrival of Anarkali's mother, Sonia Kapoor (Vaani Kapoor). It is revealed that Sonia left her baby daughter at her mother's doorstep because she could not afford to take care of both her and her baby. Eventually, Anarkali's grandmother dies and all of the family's wealth is inherited by Sonia. She travels to England after giving her daughter over to one of her servants to raise. A grown up Anarkali (Sonam Kapoor) is seen at the wedding of her best friend, an equally orphaned girl named Dolly. Her mother's wedding is also taking place on that day. During this time, she begins to develop feelings for an older man named Rizwan Ahmed (Irrfan Khan). She pursues him by following him across the country, but he does not return her affections. Eventually Anarkali's feelings get the best of her and she decides to propose to Rizwan, who has recently received his inheritance. He decides he will agree to marriage under the condition that Anarkali must find him a large sum of money. She quickly finds a man named Munawwar Syed (Parvin Dabas) who agrees to contribute a large sum of money as long as Rizwan marries his daughter. Anarkali grudgingly accepts the deal and the wedding takes place. Rizwan soon learns that he is to inherit a large amount of land from his uncle, which he decides to sell to a company called "Bhatians" for a large sum of money. The chief executive officer of Bhatians is none other than Sonia, who has been recently widowed from her husband due to an unfortunate accident. She decides to build a factory on the land that Rizwan is selling. Anarkali soon realizes that this man she has married is no good. After speaking with Rizwan, she realizes he only used her. She decides to leave him on their one-year anniversary. Her maid servant, Nanhi (Divya Dutta) advises against it but Anarkali leaves anyway. A year later, Anarkali still has not left her home due to being pregnant with Rizwan's child and the social stigma of being abandoned by her husband. cfa1e77820
